Tree of Life
The Adansonia digitata nicknamed the “tree of life” and baobab play a key role in their ecosystem. They help keep soil conditions humid, promote nutrient recycling and prevent soil erosion. They are also an important source of food, water and shelter for various birds, reptiles and insects. The baobab is considered as a miracle plant, because it stores life sustaining water inside its trunk and branches and can live for thousands of years. The fruit contains high concentrations of antioxidants, vitamin c, calcium, magnesium and iron. The baobab is also called the “upside down tree”. Most of the year the branches are leafless and looks very much like it has its roots sticking in the air.
